Rekamragam.my.id - A new Turkish allegation against Greece has sent armored vehicles to the Aegean islands of Lesbos and Samos, Turkish state newspaper Sabah claims.
According to Daily Sabah, it concerns 23 armored vehicles to Lesvos and 18 vehicles to Samos. A Turkish drone is said to have spotted the vehicles.
According to Sabah, this is against international law, because the Greek islands on the Turkish coast must remain demilitarized.
Ankara claims Greece has engaged in provocative actions and rhetoric against Turkey in recent months, including militarizing Lesvos and Samos. These actions would endanger the peace. Greece, in turn, points an accusing finger at Turkey, which is said to be the aggressor.
Greece warns of the danger of war with Turkey in the Aegean Sea as tensions between the two countries mount. This could even become a war on a scale comparable to the war between Russia and Ukraine, Athens said.
For some time now, Turkey has engaged in what Greece considers provocations: a Turkish drillship in Greek waters, the threat of annexing the Aegean islands and the accusation that Greece is violating Turkish airspace.
Turkish President Erdogan warned a few weeks ago that the Greeks will pay a "high price" and that the Turks "could just strike".
According to Turkey, Greece's anti-aircraft defense also targeted some Turkish F-16s that were on missions over the Aegean Sea, over international airspace. Greece denies the Turkish allegations.
Turkey's interior minister also said a migrant camp near Athens has become a base for "terrorists," who end up in Turkey to carry out attacks on behalf of the Kurdish PKK. Greece calls this "sad and provocative lies."
There is also the issue of the Greek pushbacks of migrants, against which Turkey is acting. Last week, Erdogan accused Greece of turning the Aegean Sea into a veritable "refugee graveyard".
Greece denies all allegations. The country has lodged complaints with NATO, the European Union and the United States about Turkey's increasingly harsh stance.
Erdogan recently broke off dialogue with Greece because that country lobbied against US arms sales to Turkey. The relationship between the two countries had just entered calmer waters this spring, after tensions ran high in 2020 over gas drilling in waters that both countries claim at the same time.
